Developer toolsGenerate SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 hashes from text or files.
Processed locally in your browser — your data is not uploaded.No. Hashing is one-way and cannot be decrypted. It is commonly used to compare data integrity.
No sign-up is required. The calculation or transformation happens in this browser tab and the result is available immediately.
A cryptographic hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of bytes. It is useful for checking whether two copies are identical, but it does not hide or encrypt the original data.
Metyris supports SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 through the browser Web Crypto API. A one-byte change produces a different hexadecimal digest.
Hashing is one-way: there is no decrypt action. A hash alone does not prove who created a file, and an unkeyed hash is not a secure password-storage scheme.
Text is encoded as UTF-8 and limited to 2,000,000 characters. Files are limited to 100 MB and read into browser memory in one operation, so available device memory can become the practical limit sooner; very large files are better checked with a streaming desktop utility.
The file name is shown only in the current interface. The file bytes and resulting digest are processed locally and are not sent to a Metyris API.
Use the same algorithm as the publisher, then compare every hexadecimal character. Obtain the expected digest through a trusted channel; matching an attacker-provided file to an attacker-provided hash proves little.
Any byte-level difference produces another digest.
SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are supported through Web Crypto.
