How to use Compound Interest Calculator

  1. Enter the starting amount and optional contribution.
  2. Set the rate, frequencies and duration.
  3. Review the totals and yearly projection.

How is compound interest estimated?

Interest is applied at the selected compounding frequency, with contributions added at the end of each selected period.

No sign-up is required. The calculation or transformation happens in this browser tab and the result is available immediately.

Practical guidance

Compound growth means each interest period starts from the previous balance. Recurring contributions can materially change the result, so their timing matters.

How the projection is calculated

Metyris divides the annual rate by the selected number of compounding periods. Interest is applied on that schedule, and each contribution is added at the end of its selected period.

The projection assumes a constant rate, regular contributions and a duration no longer than 200 years. It does not model irregular deposits or withdrawals.

Costs and purchasing power

Taxes, account fees, insurance, penalties and inflation are excluded. A displayed future balance is therefore a nominal estimate; it does not state what the money will buy later.

Real investments and variable-rate accounts do not grow at one guaranteed rate. Try several conservative scenarios rather than treating one result as a forecast.

Understanding the totals

Total contributions include the starting amount and recurring additions. Interest or growth is the final balance minus those contributions, subject to floating-point rounding.

Good to know

Are taxes and fees included?+

No. The estimate excludes taxes, fees and changing rates.

Can the return be negative?+

Yes. A negative rate can model a declining balance, subject to the entered assumptions.

Are results financial advice?+

No. Calculator results are estimates for comparison and planning. Check important decisions with a qualified professional.
