Compress Image

Reduce JPG, PNG and WebP file sizes without uploading your images.

Processed locally in your browser — your file is not uploaded.
How is this private?

Processing happens in this browser tab, so files are not uploaded to Metyris for processing. Reloading or closing the page clears working data, though your browser may retain temporary files or downloads. Very large files can exceed available browser memory.

How to use Compress Image

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose a preset, or set an optional target size.
  3. Compress, compare the actual sizes, and download.

Can every image reach a target size?

No. The tool searches for the highest practical quality at the current dimensions. If the target cannot be met, it reports this clearly. Try WebP, a larger target, or resize first.

No sign-up is required. The calculation or transformation happens in this browser tab and the result is available immediately.

BEFORE YOU RELY ON THE RESULT

Practical guidance

Compression is useful when a form, email or website rejects a large image. The useful result is the smallest file that still keeps the detail your reader needs.

Formats, limits and transparency

The tool accepts one JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels. Output dimensions may be no larger than 16,384 pixels on either side.

PNG and WebP can retain transparent areas. JPEG cannot, so transparent pixels are placed on white. Animated inputs are processed as a single still frame.

What compression changes

JPG and WebP quality controls trade visual detail for fewer bytes. Re-encoding through the browser canvas removes embedded metadata and may discard an embedded color profile, so compare color-critical work with the original.

A target size is a best effort. Some images cannot reach it through quality reduction alone; Metyris reports the measured result instead of claiming success.

When a target cannot be reached

Reduce the dimensions first, then compress again. Text-heavy screenshots often need more pixels than ordinary photographs to keep letters readable.

Good to know

Does the original file change?+

No. The result is a new download.

What happens to metadata?+

Canvas processing removes metadata and animated inputs become a still frame.

Is my content uploaded?+

No. Processing happens in this browser tab and the tool does not send your content to a server.
