Compress PDF

Compress an unlocked PDF locally and compare the result before downloading a smaller image-based copy.

Processed locally in your browser — your file is not uploaded.
How is this private?

Processing happens in this browser tab, so files are not uploaded to Metyris for processing. Reloading or closing the page clears working data, though your browser may retain temporary files or downloads. Very large files can exceed available browser memory.

How to use Compress PDF

  1. Choose an unlocked PDF up to 50 MB and 100 pages.
  2. Select a compression preset and review its document-feature warning.
  3. Compress, compare the measured sizes, and download the result.

Why do compression results vary?

Scanned and image-heavy PDFs often shrink more than text-heavy PDFs. Metyris never promises a particular reduction.

No sign-up is required. The calculation or transformation happens in this browser tab and the result is available immediately.

BEFORE YOU RELY ON THE RESULT

Practical guidance

Use image-based compression when a scanned or photo-heavy PDF needs to meet a file-size limit. Compare the downloaded result before using it.

Before you compress

The tool creates a new image-based copy of an unlocked PDF. It accepts files up to 50 MB and 100 pages, then lets you select a compression preset and compare the measured sizes.

Scanned and image-heavy PDFs often shrink more than text-heavy PDFs. If no reduction is achieved, Metyris keeps the original bytes and reports that outcome.

Check what the new file can do

Check the downloaded PDF at normal reading size before submitting it. Fine print, signatures and document edges can become less clear after compression.

Do not use the compressed copy when you need selectable text, working links or forms, digital signatures, bookmarks, metadata or accessibility structure. Those features are not preserved in the rasterized result.

Keep the original until you have checked the copy

Download the smaller file only after checking readability and the reported size. Keep the source PDF until the receiving portal accepts the result.

Good to know

When is image-based PDF compression useful?+

It is most useful for scanned or photo-heavy PDFs when a portal has a file-size limit. Text-heavy PDFs may not shrink as much.

What can raster compression change?+

Searchable text, links, forms, signatures, bookmarks, metadata and accessibility structure are not preserved in the rasterized result.

What happens if the result is larger?+

Metyris keeps the original bytes and reports that no reduction was achieved.

Is my input uploaded?+

No. Processing happens in this browser tab and the tool does not send your input or result to Metyris.
