PDF WORKFLOW

Preparing a PDF for an online application

Application portals often combine strict file limits with vague instructions. Work from copies, decide the required page order before editing, and inspect the final download as though you were the reviewer.

1. Read the portal rules first

Record the accepted format, maximum file size, page limit and whether documents must be separate. Check whether the portal accepts only PDF or also images. A technically valid PDF can still be rejected for exceeding a stated limit or omitting a required page.

If the form must remain fillable or digitally signed, avoid restructuring it unless the recipient explicitly allows that. Merging or splitting creates a changed document and can invalidate signatures or disrupt forms.

2. Prepare clean copies

Keep every original. Remove unrelated pages from copies, rotate pages that open sideways, and extract only the required range. Scanned evidence should be readable at ordinary zoom, with names, dates and reference numbers visible.

Metyris page tools copy pages into a new PDF. Page content usually remains, but document-level bookmarks, attachments, metadata, scripts, form relationships and signatures are not guaranteed to survive. These tools do not sanitize active PDF content.

3. Assemble in reviewer order

A useful order is often the completed form, identity or eligibility evidence, then supporting records in the sequence requested by the portal. Rename your local copy clearly before uploading it, but avoid placing sensitive identifiers in a filename unless required.

  • Arrange files in the intended order before merging.
  • Open the merged download and inspect the first and last page of every source document.
  • Confirm orientation, page count, text readability and any form fields you still need.

4. Perform the final upload check

Verify the actual byte size shown by your device, not an estimate. For an image-only requirement, resize and compress the source image while watching small text and signatures. For a PDF limit, do not repeatedly convert pages to low-quality images unless readability remains acceptable.

Metyris performs these workflows in the browser, but the application portal itself will receive the document when you submit it. Review that portal’s privacy terms separately.
